A favorite re-read - This is your chance to revisit one of your favorites!
A classic - A novel published in the past that stands the test of time.
From an ongoing/new book series - Have a series you've been enjoying reading? Dying to start a new series? This is the square for that.
Color in the title - The title of the book needs to reference a color. For example, I am reading the Orange Cat by Kelley Armstrong.
Set on or near a holiday - The plot itself doesn't have to revolve fully around the holiday. If a holiday is mentioned, you can use it here.
A mystery - Genre of fiction usually involving a mysterious death or a crime to be solved.
One word title - "The" counts as a word, so think again! ;-)
TV tie-in/turned into a tv show - This would be the place for any novels based on popular tv shows, or those books that have been turned into tv shows (your GoT books, your Shannara Chronicles, your Sookie Stackhouse books, etc.).
Horrible cover art - If you think the cover is ugly, then you've filled this square.
Buddy read - a book read with one or more friends. We will try to host a buddy read each month. If you want to suggest a book for the buddy read, please feel free to comment.
Number in the title- Regular/Cardinal numbers (one, two, three, etc.) and Ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) count for this square. Roman numerals count too (I, II, III).
Free Space - any book you wish to place on this square counts!
A romance - any genre, any heat level, het, m/m, f/f, erotic, menage, whatever as long as it's classified a 'romance' it counts.
Female author - The author has to be a girl. :)
Fooled by a pretty cover - This is a square that you can't really plan for, as it's something you only figure out once you start reading, but basically the outside didn't match the inside.
Children's or YA book - If it's geared toward newborn to 18, it will work.
Never judge a book by its movie - stellar_raven titled this square off of a slogan on a bookmark she owns, but basically, if they've made a movie (no matter the quality of the movie) based on it, it's eligible for this square.
Author from another country - author must not have been born in your birth country.
A book recommended by a friend - If your friends don't read (it is shocking, I know) then ask your friends here or check out what they are reading!
Anthology/Collection of short stories - Collection of poems, short stories, plays, songs, or excerpts. In genre fiction anthology is used to categorize collections of shorter works such as short stories and short novels, usually collected into a single volume for publication.
Under 200 pages long - 200 pages or less!
An audiobook - Recording of a reading of a book, typically a novel.
Published this year - 2017.
Sci-Fi/Fantasy/UF/Paranormal - Paranormal designates experiences that lie outside "the range of normal experience or scientific explanation." Fantasy is a genre of fiction that uses magic and other supernatural phenomena as a primary element of plot, theme, or setting. Urban fantasy is a subgenre of fantasy defined by place; the fantastic narrative has an urban setting and Sci-fi is a genre of fiction in which the stories often tell about science and technology of the future.
I may have given a bit more information where it was self-explanatory but it never hurts in case someone wants to dive into a genre they are not familiar with. If you have any questions or are not sure whether a book falls into a particular square, please let us know.
